Why is Literacy Intervention Important?

With several years of experience as an educator, I have seen firsthand how deeply literacy difficulties can impact a child’s learning. Literacy is the foundation upon which math, science, social studies, and all other learning is built. Without this, children often fall behind in almost every subject.

Strong literacy skills begin with a solid foundation, and students with gaps in that foundation rarely catch up on their own. When these gaps are addressed effectively, students can move forward with greater confidence, independence, and achievement in their learning.

Did you know?

Many children need explicit reading instruction to become confident readers.

While some students have identified learning differences such as dyslexia or dysgraphia, many others have simply not been taught in a way that makes sense to their brain. Research shows that approximately 50–60% of students require explicit and comprehensive instruction to learn to read, spell, and write, and 10–15% of those require intensive and repeated instruction to become fully literate. (Nancy Young, 2023)

Public school classrooms are large and complex, making it challenging to provide the type of literacy instruction that many students need. Teachers are balancing diverse learning needs, and not all have had formal training in the Science of Reading. The reality is that many students do not receive the targeted support they require to build a strong literacy foundation.

Is Literacy SparkED Right for Your Child?

Literacy SparkED works with learners across a range of profiles, including those with learning disabilities, ADHD, and autism, meeting each child where they are and providing the support they need to succeed.

Does your child:

find reading difficult or frustrating?
struggle with spelling?
need concepts explained step by step and reviewed often?
work hard but make little progress?
have trouble keeping up with grade-level expectations?
avoid or dislike reading and writing?

Literacy SparkED can help.

Literacy SparkED provides targeted, structured literacy support tailored to your child’s needs.

Each lesson is carefully planned to address specific skill gaps using approaches grounded in the Science of Reading and Orton-Gillingham principles. Instruction follows a clear, step-by-step progression, moving from foundational skills to more complex concepts.

Students learn through visual, auditory, and hands-on practice, with consistent review and immediate feedback.

When appropriate, review games are woven into lessons to make practice engaging while reinforcing skills and confidence.
